Location:
The Cave of Wonders is located in San Pedro de Macoris province on the village called Boca de Soco in the southeastern region of the Dominican Republic. To enter the site, there is direct access from the highway "Autovía del Este" between San Pedro de Macoris and La Romana village called Cumayasa.
About the Cave of Wonders (Cueva de las Maravillas):

The Cave of Wonders has one of the best examples of Aboriginal Taino rock art of the eastern area of Hispaniola Island. This cave was opened to the public in 2003 and has a depth of 25 meters underground and is about 800 meters long of which can travel 240 meters. Among them you can see about 500 paintings on the walls made by the Tainos, and etched with predominantly black and red colors. Among the figures that can be seen in the cave, apart from humans, there are owls, bats, iguanas and snakes.

The cave was previously known by the name of Jagual Cave and in 1949 was given its present name of The Cave of Wonders. The Cave of Wonders is part of a chain of caves open throughout the coastal plain as a result of underground water activity: underground water coming down towards the sea from the Eastern mountain chain and absorbing water level due to the porous property of karsts geology.

In the geological formation of the cave coral formations involved mostly animals and the environment that formed during the late Pleistocene.

Cave of Wonders exhibits a variety of sediments that help to know everything that can come from within a cave on secondary formations: stalactites, lava, hangings and columns.

When visiting the Cave of Wonders, you can enjoy the visit with tour guides who speak Spanish and English. Also, is not allowed take pictures inside the caves.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, the tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.

The Cave of Wonders is a journey that can be done as a in half day trip while in Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana and surrounding towns from the south or east regions due to its easy location and proximity to other cities .
