Location:


Is a municipality in the province of La Vega, located in the heart of the central mountains and stands on a plateau 525 meters above sea level. Bordered on the north by La Vega, with Monse
ñor Nouel southeast, south and Janice Constance northwest.

 

About Jarabacoa:

Jarabacoa is known as the region of Eternal Spring, by its very pleasant temperatures throughout the year.
Its Taíno name means "place of many waters" that before the Spanish arrived on the island, Jarabacoa was inhabited by Taino Indians who are housed in the vicinity of the rivers Yaque del Norte, Jimenoa, Baiguate Guanajuma.
The town of Jarabacoa is located in the Cordillera area in which there are 80 km ² of protected areas. This area is considered the largest in the country, generating potable water for approximately 1.2 million inhabitants in the area Santiago Cibao Valley.

 

Climate:


 

Characterized by its wonderful spring weather, with an average temperature of 21 º C.


 

How to get there:


 

By Car: From Santo Domingo taking Autopista Duarte it is a 2 hours trip.


 

Attractions:

Monastery of St. Mary of the Gospel:


Is 6 miles from Jarabacoa and was established in 1987 by a group of Cistercian monks in the Monastery of Alfoz of Lloredo Viaceli in Spain who traveled to the Dominican Republic to found the monastery in Jarabacoa. The monastery is inhabited by a community of Cistercian monks devoted to manual labor in the production of food grain and the cultivation of land. In the old monastic tradition, the benefit they bring these works should serve to cover the costs of their community life and to help the needy. This monastery also serves a small inn to provide accommodation for those who want to live an experience of meditation and prayer.


 

Jimenoa Leap (Salto de Jimenoa):


It consists of a cascade of 40 meters high and is located approximately 500 meters above sea level. It is a place worth visiting for its beautiful waters, located between a large green mountains and lush vegetation and with the passing of one of the most important rivers in the Dominican Republic, as is El Yaque del Norte and can be reached walking through a trail that travel along the shore and suspension bridges that cross it. Cannoying can also practice in the waters of the Rio Jimenoa, you descend through canyons to the Jimenoa Falls, enjoying the cool, clear waters in natural pools.
There are some places where people cannot bathe in the danger it can present to swimmers.


 

Baiguate's Leap (Salto de Baiguate):


It’s the best of the jumps found in the Baiguate river and is intended for those who love adventure and extreme tourism, where you can enjoy a swim in energizing natural pool surrounded by trees.


 

Yaque del Norte River:


Is the largest in the Caribbean where you can find adventure and fun for the more adventurous rafting. Get on a raft and enjoy the refreshing waters of this river, but must do so accompanied by professional guides. You will pass through rapids and canyons that leave your adrenaline up and you can be in touch with nature while enjoying an unforgettable adventure.


 

Manabao:


The borough, located west of the province of La Vega, it belongs to the municipality of Jarabacoa, whose center is about 23 miles apart. The road that connect them runs parallel to the river Yaque del Norte and crosses streams Dajao and Grande.

The resorts nearby offer some extreme and ecological activities such as rafting, hiking, horseback riding and bird watching. This way you can get to the Park J. Armando Bermudez which is 1.110 meters over sea level. This park was created in 1956, is the home of the guinea pig, the wild pig, the swift and many other animals that visitors rarely get to know. In its 766 square kilometers abundant pine, juniper, cedar, walnut, copey, almond trees, giant ferns and plants strangler.

 

 


In the area we can find other important rivers such as:


Slippers River, whose name follows a legend that talks about the loss of the slippers of Queen Constanza.


Rio Las Palmas, the Arroyazo, excellent hot-water spa.


Arroyo Hondo, which has its source in the area of the stock.


Rio Grande, which nurtures the agricultural irrigation canal most of the area.


White Water Falls in the headwaters of the Rio Grande, crystal clear water and chilled, where temperatures are below 0 º C and possessing an exceptional landscape.


 

Recommendations:


· It’s advisable to make the trip in a 4 x 4 vehicle.

· Bing swimwear and warm clothes with you.

· Bring repellent and sun screen.

· Camera for beautiful photos.
