The Salesian mission arrived to this church around February of 1945.

Is one of the most beautiful and original churches of Dominican Republic. After more than 50 yeas after its construction, the Salesians of Moca City keep giving all their energies for evangelization of the youth.
About “Iglesia Sagrado Corazón de Jesús” (Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus)
The church is concrete-based built with 2 stories and had a capacity for over 500 people. The church has beautiful panels of stained glass a imported from Italy. The central image is the Holly Heart of Jesus in white marble and weights around 2,000 kilos. Also a group of angels and the Last Dinner can be appreciated in marble.
It has several altars dedicated to various Virgins and Saints, worked in marble of Sienna and Verona from the sculptor Arrighini. The church has 5 bells to mark the hour and religious services and can be heard to great distance around the town. The church has several entrance doors but the most important one is the famous “Door of Forgiveness” made of bronze and crystal and represents Jesus surrounded by kids.
It also has 7 altars of marble with its communion rail, via cruces paints, and images of John Bosco, Holly Heart of Jesus, St. Anthony of Padua and others. Weddings and baptisms are celebrated in this church, also is the place for the main religious services during the Holly Week and Lent.
