Monte Cristi is located in the Northwest part of the Island approximately 135 kilometers from Puerto Plata. Limits to the North and West with the Atlantic Ocean and the neighbor country of Haiti, to the East with the province of Valverde and to the South with the provinces of Santiago Rodriguez and Dajabón.
About Monte Cristi:

Monte Cristi was declared province in 1907 with an area of 1,924.35 square kilometers and its beauty is characterized by the Atlantic ocean and its arid landscapes next to the Monte Cristi mountain range that goes across the province occidental area.

The town of Monte Cristi throws big cultural celebrations for the carnival during the Independence Day festivities and also religious celebrations that include the ‘Party of Saint Fernando” and “Saint John Baptist” during the month of May. Also the regular holly week festivities are celebrated here.

The main economic principal activities of Monte Cristi are the farming of banana, rice, plantain and also the goat meat. Also, fishing and salt extraction are activities for economic support in the coastal area

By Air: Closest airport is Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP) located in Puerto Plata. Second closest airport is: Cibao International Airport (STI) in Santiago.
By Car: From Santo Domingo using Highway Autopista Duarte 4 hours trip.

Monte Cristi National Park:
This park was created under Presidential decree in 1983 and comprends an area of 500 square kilometers that goes from the Haitian border to the ‘Punta Rusia’ Beach. The park has a flat area with mountains that do not exceed 300 meters high and the coastal and marine area has the best corals in the country. This place is very singular in its flora and fauna with species that are endemic of the park. Migratory birds visit in certain seasons of the year and whales and dolphins as well.
“Morro” of Monte Cristi:
The main tourist attraction of the park is “El Morro” Beach. It is an paradisiacal place of arid and virgin nature surrounded with camel shape mountains. This beach is not over populated with visitors and enables you to have a direct and special contact with Nature. The journey once in El Morro can be easily done by walk.
7 Brothers Cay:
A series of 7 cays called the “7 Brothers” are within the park located several kilometers from the coast which are named: Monte Grande, Monte Chico, Terrero, Muerto, Rata, Arenas y Tororú; plus th e cays Cabra, Ahogado and others.
Beaches:
In addition to ‘El Morro’ Beach, Monte Cristi has beautiful beaches like Punta Rucia, Manzanillo Bay and Manantial. These beaches have almost none hotel infrastructure which makes the place to conserve as a virgin and peaceful as it can be.
