Dining out in Dominican Republic has always been characterized by having excellent restaurants of every variety of food from the local flavors to the international, but when the time comes to select where to go, it’s always a tradition to visit the restaurant El Meson de la Cava.
Wherever a tourist decides to travel, it is difficult to imagine that could find a place where enjoy a delicious meal while taking an imaginary trip to the history of the culture of the visiting country. This imaginary journey becomes real when you visit the Meson de la Cava, unique in its category, because it is located inside a cave where some of the Taino aborigine’s culture of the Dominican Republic once had his presence.
Meson de la Cava opened its doors more than forty years ago in the city of Santo Domingo when its current owner in 1969, with his ideas and studies in Madrid, visited the caves with his colleagues. The visit caused an impression that caused the desire to open a restaurant to operate in the environment of the so exotic caves. At that time, the caves were in their natural state and were modified to operate the restaurant. As in all excavation, articles of great historical value were found inside the cave.
You might think that the success of such exquisite restaurant would be due to of the lush natural decoration of dining inside a Taino cave, but the reality is Meson de la Cava has delicious dishes, which makes the perfect place for a true taste of the palate.
Meson de la Cava in Santo Domingo, "one in a million" as the owner describes it, has a space to accommodate 150 customers classified under the

In the healthy area for salad lovers, Meson de la Cava provide traditional dishes like Caesar and Greek salads but cannot miss the inimitable in flavor of their “Taino” salad prepared with mixed lettuce, tropical fruits, avocado, Berro, mango and palmetto with a touch of balsamic vinaigrette rum.
